Social Justice

Last Friday, our youth group watched the Kony 2012 video that exploded onto the internet. In this video, the organization called Invisible Children called attention to the Ugandan Warlord, Joseph Kony, who has kidnapped and abducted thousands of children for his own personal army. It is a very well-edited and heart-tugging video.

After the video, we talked about social justice and how this group has the heart to do something about injustice. However, we also talked about how they were accused of not allocating their finances well and how only a limited amount of the money raised really goes towards helping the Ugandans themselves.

The main takeaway for our group was to first have a heart like God. God's heart breaks for the poor and needy and we too should have a heart like His. Second, for us to be mindful of what organizations are out there doing good, but to do our research as well. And finally, to actually do something about it. It's not good enough just to talk about helping the poor, but we need to actually do it.

We will continue talking about social justice and helping the poor this upcoming Friday and what we can do to get involved. We hope that you can join us!
